In which the pond has a Clownfish fluid moment thanks to the bigoted reptiles of Oz ...

Whenever the pond is short of material, comedy items, climate science, whatever, or feels down, there's always the Bolter having bright ideas ...

And that spiffing idea naturally led the pond on to older material, which nonetheless managed to sound as fresh as a daisy ... (and why is the daisy considered fresh?)

A man determined not to listen to facts he didn't like?

It reminded the pond of that old cartoon ...

And so on to serious matters, because the Bolter should only be consumed in small portions - too many gobbets leads to bloating and that "just one teeny little extra mint" phenomenon ...

The reptiles have been indefatigable of late in their valiant fight against the notion that gender might be a tad fluid ... so naturally they were fully alert when somehow climate science seemed to get tangled up in proceedings ...

The pond couldn't resist slipping in that second one.

That's the way it should be in reptile land... lustful patriarchal ape molests woman, and possibly, secretly, deep down, she enjoyed it before she cashed out ...

A harassing man and a harassed woman.

What could be more normal and natural and healthy?  And reliable, not like the variable weather ...

Now the notion of gender as a continuum is actually very old school. It helps take account of all sorts of situations and conditions - bisexuality, a common enough phenomenon, being one of them.

It seems however that the reptiles have never managed to swing both ways, perhaps they don't swing at all ...

Instead they prefer to hunker down in their two exclusively bigoted boxes and that's that ...

It does however beg the question of what to do with those who don't quite fit into the two boxes ...

Now the pond has already mentioned this story, but it continues to raise a question the reptiles never answer, in much the same way as Sam the man seems incapable of answering a simple "why?"

Why do they keep on banging on about the allegedly contested idea that gender and sexuality are fluid ... when to prove that they are tolerant and accepting, they keep giving McGregor space, despite her being the perfect example of fluidity ...

Indeed, transgender is itself fluid enough ... there's those who feel, but who don't do anything about it, there are those who are pre-op, there are those who are post-op, there are those who feel it was the right thing to do, and more rarely there are those who want to revert, and also rarely there are those who prefer and arrive at a kind  of androgyny ...

The pond takes no position on any of it, it being up to the individuals involved, though it has many friends in the TG community, and all of them confirm that the idea of gender and sexuality is fluid ... and when the pond remembers its rather forlorn sex life, it's remarkable how many partners confessed to having all sorts of bisexual encounters.

McGregor herself shows how fluid the notion can be ...

A woman writing about cricket for the reptiles?

That's really stretching the boundaries ... why it'd be like the pond writing about baseball.

We keed, we keed. What was astonishing in that piece about McGregor was the way that the comments section barely noted that here was a TG woman who exemplified the fluidity of certain notions ...

The rest of today's reptile story similarly paid no heed to such notions, and instead just recycled all the old reptile anxieties and distortions, including the nonsense spouted by the Devine in relation to Cheltenham ...

Yes, speaking of binary thinking, they had to wheel in binary bullshit artist Lyle Shelton with his Xian fundamentalism to show how it's done ...

Meanwhile, down in the comments section, things got ugly and fundamentalist because that's what happens when the reptiles of Oz feed their trolls  and bigots ...

Well yes, if you can't ask Catherine McGregor, or any TG or bisexual in the neighbourhood, why not head off to your petshop and ask the clownfish, and if that's not possible, revert to the clownfish wiki here ...

Judging by the comments in the lizard Oz, clownfish are part of a hideous Marxist, leftist, greenie beyond the pale plot ...

The full stupidity of the Oz readership was on parade ...

Thanks Damien, thanks madness has invaded society (in the same way that madness has invaded the clownfish), and thanks fear mongering reptiles for another bout of prejudice, bigotry, and fear-mongering.

Here's a song to repay you for your kindness in maintaining the fear of the other and the different and the fluid ...

  1. Everybody is doing the gender fluidity thing. It's hilarious really because it was capitalists that kept telling us that life was all about our individuality not community standards after all there is no such thing as society, and being able to make a choice because choosing what we like to buy and do is the whole point of being alive isn't it?

So why are they upset now? We like choice.

When she learned in 2004 that her long-estranged father had undergone sex reassignment surgery her life long examination of the politics of gender, sex and identity became deeply personal."

"In the Darkroom is Susan Faludi's riveting investigation of her father: from his youth as a Jewish fugitive in Nazi-occupied Budapest, to abusive, tyrannical father, mountaineer and adventurer in the Amazon, photographer specialising in image alteration, transgender woman living in Hungary at the age of 76."

  2. I am amazed at how journalists, especially of the reptile kind, trivialize complex matters. I can only assume the matter under discussion is too complex, too hard to treat in any depth. So the way Catherine McGregor is treated reveals a large blind-spot, as you indicate.
The idea that bullying should not include LGBTI people is pure neglect and discrimination - as if such people did not exist. And if they do, that they should be ignored and marginalized as much as possible.
I have never seen a person well credentialed in gender and sexual matters writing about these things in The Australian. Instead, that news source turns to ministers of religion and any dissenting person who wants to deride the Safe School program. We can see the trivialization and ignorance in the published comments.
The Murdoch press is guilty of trying to "dumb down" the populace and promote ignorance, bigotry and outmoded conservatism because that is the habitat of so many of its adherents.

That's because that tactic works really well, Anony. It worked really well in Germany and Italy in the 1930s, it worked for Thatcher in the 1980s, it worked for McCarthy in the 1950s, it worked for Menzies in the 1950s, it worked for J W Howard in the 2000s and it has worked for the Kims in North Korea for more than 60 years and three Great Leaders. Amongst many others eg the demonisation of HRC.

So who's going to be so stupid as to give up a winner ?

  4. Professor Triggs is a dignified woman with a crystalline mind.

    She is courageous and compassionate.

Her detractors shame themselves with their pedestrian views and mean-spiritedness.

Unfortunately we live in an age in which such people have been handed the microphone and are well-rewarded for it. They have come to believe they are hot stuff when they have much to be modest about.

  5. Thank you, GrueBleen, for the reminder. You have listed far Right entities which have established and maintained power through right connections, military power and money - often with no small amount of violence. Eventually they fall and are held in contempt except by those who profited under their influence.

It seems to me that Right wing power is desperately trying to hang on in present times when the business model is failing against prevailing headwinds. There are plenty who resent the fact that News Corps is run by an expatriate who interferes in the politics of this country and others. It was pleasing to see how after the horror reign of Abbott, Fizza Turnbull lost some 19 seats and barely gained power, now behind in polls. Murdoch must be livid.
