In which the pond goes vigilante with the flying lying hjelmsman and Miranda the Devine ...

Reality? It's just a state of Leyon mind or never no mind ...

Every so often the pond scores a copy of the AFR from the airport lounge, and so it came to pass on Friday, and so the pond was able to ready David Leyonhjelm in the editorials and opinion page furiously scribbling Shotguns today, trust goes next ...

In its own way, this is no worse, though certainly not better, than the Terrorists hosting  Mad Dog Mark "break a taxi driver's arm today" Latham ...

The pond, and no doubt any pond reader, could write an average Leyonhjelm libertarian tract in their sleep, since it requires little more than the paranoias, fears, loathings, and sanctimonious rage that might be manufactured by a five year old, but this concluding sentence struck the pond as something special:

"And if the government can't be trusted to keep to a deal with me, how can it be trusted if it owns all the guns?"

Now if you google that line, you might be able to score a free read - the AFR is hurting badly and now wants to be a part of the conversation, but the pond has to wonder if it's a conversation worth having ...

Embedded in that rhetorical flourish is the notion that heroic gun owners, who have retained all their guns, will somehow be able to overthrow the tyrannical government in a people's movement, just like George Washington and the boys did way back when ...

Everyone knows the memes ...

John Howard didn't make that hit list but he's on others ... as the memes do their work ...

The end result is a mentally disturbed loon heading into a pizza restaurant in search of a conspiracy and firing off a few shots ... or blowing up a government building and killing hundreds ...

This sort of paranoid fantasy is an NRA-cultivated piece of nonsense, and even in the United States, it's not entirely convincing as a revolutionary strategy ...

That story here ... and it looks like it's another time when the 3% are going to have to take charge ...

But it does illustrate how the extreme right and the extreme left converge to celebrate treason and revolutionary activities, of what might be called the Red Dawn kind (not the pathetic re-make, the original meisterwerk by Führer Milius ...)

Leyonhjelm is a bear of little brain, and that's about as much of a segue as the pond needs to turn to talk of the Terrorists this meditative Sunday ...

The Terrorists have been on extreme right Muslim bashing roll this week, celebrating the red head and demonising the alien ...

It reached some kind of peak this day ...

Sharks and Muslims!

Of course once the Terrorists are on a roll, the rest of the reptile Murdochians also bay at the moon ...

So that's where gay marriage led us, even before gay marriage began ... next stop, fourth cat or dog club?

Only the croweaters saw a different future and a new hope, and instead of turning SA into a uranium waste slag heap, they went potty at the end of the rainbow ...

Happy potty holydays ...

It's desperate stuff, but it helps explain why the Terrorists are in a terrible pickle with their business model.

It took the pond back to the time when there were actual duelling tabloid afternoon newspapers in the country, with The Sun and the Daily Mirror feuding it out, then folding, and The News in Adelaide folding, its only ongoing gift to the world, the Chairman, and the Herald Sun the result of a merger, just as the Daily Telegraph Mirror briefly saw a setting sun before vanishing ...

As always, the pond is here to help ...

You see ... right there is your problem experiencing the Terrorist website.

For whatever reason - presumably to make the hysterical rantings of the Devine part of the conversation - the reptiles left her ranting outside the paywall this morning ...

But the pond is now living in fear. It's off to Melbourne this Xmas to dwell amongst its Xian relatives, and frankly, it seems that the city is worse than the Bronx in its Walter Hill hey day, armed gangs strolling the streets, the natives living in abject fear, the cops incompetent, the world coming to an end, the sky falling in, and the Devine doing her very best chicken little impersonation ...

Of course the opening line bells the cat. To the casual observer it often feels like the Devine would like to start a race war, though she'd probably settle for a clash of civilisations war.

As for the poor old 'Tiser hoping for a pot of gold, the Devine is also severe on hippie scum ...

There are multiple ironies at work here, but the main one is the litany of complaints, the moaning and the whining ... it's the sort of carry-on that's ripe for the irony and satire of Political Correctness Is Out of Control and it's Sad ...

It's not the pond's business to defend the Victorian police or the state government, but rather to admire the way that effortlessly the Devine can get agitated about the limitations on free speech imposed by the politically correct, and then a nanosecond later, get outraged by protestors ...

Of course there's every point wailing about African refugees when you're a demonising Devine, and then the demented Devine shows how to overstep the mark ...by dragging Jill Meagher into her stew of bigotry ...

Well there's your website experience issue in a nutshell Terrorists.

If the pond wanted to experience fear and loathing, it would drop in more regularly, but the Devine shows just why the pond hopes the Terrorist business model proves as effective as the Daily Telegraph Mirror once turned out to be ...

Oh and yes, it is vigilantism ... and vigilantism ultimately leads some loon heading off to to their own investigation in a pizza restaurant  and firing off a couple of shots ... unless you have sensible gun ownership laws and a media not intent on hysteria, ranting and demonising and going off the rails in a bid to prop up their failing, flailing business model ... instead turning to admire and ape the likes, deeds and works of the Alex Jones of the world ...

We all know where it ends ... look, there's Ma Devine on her verandah ...

Of course the Devine is too canny to get herself out on the street toting a weapon.

The idea is to get convenient loons to lather themselves up into a rage ... and talk of madness in a mad way ...

End result? Government and constabulary undermined and defamed, and the country a little further along the path to confusion, conflagration and madness.

Congratulations, Victoria Police, you've just been Devined by expert Terrorists.

Never mind, the pond will still be travelling to Melbourne, carrying its favourite scent as a way of enhancing the stink of ripe, almost putrid body odour ...

Truth is, as for most things, Howard and Costello beat them to fucking it.

"The company's troubles do not stop in France, as EDF also owns the UK nuclear industry. Ironically, it took over 15 reactors in the UK after British Energy went bankrupt in 2002 because the cost of producing the electricity was greater than the wholesale price - exactly the situation being repeated now in France...

A looming problem for EDF, which already admits is has €37 billion of debt, is that 17 of its ageing fleet of nuclear reactors, which provide 70% of France's electricity, are being retired.

According to AlphaValue, EDF has underestimated the liabilities for decommissioning these reactors by €20 billion. Another €33.5 billion should be added to cost of handling nuclear waste, the report says. Juan Camilo Rodriguez, an equity analyst who is the author of the report, says that a correct adjustment of nuclear provisions would lead to the technical bankruptcy of the company...

The cost of producing electricity from renewables is still falling, while nuclear gets ever more expensive, and massive liabilities loom. Ultimately, the bill will have to be passed on to the taxpayers."

    1. “You can’t prove God doesn’t exist!”

...But there is a difference between an expedient answer and an honest answer. Christians play fast and loose with the truth, and it’s hard to nail them down (pun intended). We have to resort to expedient answers in order to not get bogged down in details that just slow the conversation down.

The honest answer, I think, should be that there is no God. Of course there isn’t. We know the Christian god does not exist. We know the Greek gods don’t exist. There are no gods at the top of mountains, on the clouds, or in one of the ten to twenty-six dimensions that may or may not exist, all rolled up like an atomic swiss cake. To this people will inevitably reply, as Al Sharpton ill-advisedly tried to argue against Christopher Hitchens in their debate on the existence of God, what about the abstract concept “God”? Sharpton’s arguments failed, as these arguments always do, because there is no such thing as a “generic God” that is revealed to us by nature. The only concrete pieces of evidence we have for gods are holy books which proclaim the existence of a specific God, which can be easily disproven. These holy books are unconvincing, to say the least, but at least they are evidence. There is no evidence that someone like Sharpton can point to and say “look, here is a conception of God you can’t disprove!”

  3. I believe that the god Spinoza conceptualized could exist and could subsume all the other gods and goddesses that have ever been created by people. Even the aboriginal concept of country the way Bill gammage's story describes it is comparable with Spinoza's god

    1. Yeah but Spinoza's god, like its creator, is dead.
