In which the reptile climate denialists talk about the weather ...

Being a holyday Monday, the pond was tempted to track Gra Gra's descent into madness ...

Devastated that the Tory May hadn't romped home, Gra Gra was inconsolable, until he remembered at the very end the wisdom of the crowds ...

Here in good old Australia I still cling to my long-held political adage that the “mob will always work you out”. Bob Hawke was right when he said that Australia always comes up with the right result in elections. Hopefully that still applies in the lucky country.

And so the onion muncher slouched off to Bethlehem and government, and restoration of knighthoods as a barbecue stopper, and Gra Gra slouched off to senility this holyday order day...

Well that text can be googled if punters want to discover the Gra Gra's dismay at the Mayday's unseemly suffering at the hands of a leftist - shocking, profoundly disturbing to discover even a hint or a vestige of leftism, after Gra Gra's lifetime effort to eradicate leftist thinking when life on the Gold Coast can be so much richer and more fun - but the pond was pleased to discover other eternal verities ...

You see, as surely as someone proposes a solution to the climate wars, then just as surely the reptiles of Oz will find space for a climate denialist to muddy the waters, obfuscate and spread confusion ...

And so it came to pass this day ...

Now pardon the splash's notion of asking about the weather, which carries meaningless stupidity to a post-Gra Gra level ... let's get down and dirty ...

Around this point in reptiles discussing climate science aka the weather aka a religious belief aka theocratic thinking, aka Malcolm Roberts explaining a report he hasn't yet read, the pond is always flung into doubt and uncertainty.

Many important scientific questions have been raised by the piece, and require compelling answers and perhaps statistical analysis. How soon can we return to clean coal, like in the good old days? How soon can the onion muncher be interviewed about bringing energy prices down, so he can blather about magic puddings and five hundred dollars being taken off energy bills until the twelfth of never thanks to his excellent government?

Where exactly does Kininmonth sit on the measurement scale? Which scale should be used for measurement?

The pond isn't sure it has the computer modelling skills or the maths to decide the issue, so perhaps we need a little more Kininmonth before reaching a verdict...

Uh huh. Well the pond is no closer to clarity or to certainty as to where Kininmonth sits on the scale. Could it be 4? Perhaps it's 3xy, where X represents an old Melbourne radio call sign?

As for that impressive list of credentials, the pond headed off to Desmog, for a quick update here ...

William Kininmonth is a retired meteorologist and headed the Australian Bureau of Meteorology's national climate center for 12 years, although the bureau has pointed out that the center did not actually research climate change during his tenure. He is an adviser to several climate science denial groups.
Kininmonth is the director of an organization called the “Australasian Climate Research Institute.” Kinimonth's “Climate Research Institute” appears to be run out of his home in Australia, as the mailing address for the Institute is the same as Kinimonth's residence.

And so on and on, with many more impressive links, credentials and references ...

Well played reptiles. The pond is reassured that so long as there's a climate denialist in the house, the warm, heating sun will rise each day and everything's for the best in all possible weathery worlds ... so long as the climate wars and the obfuscation and confusion can continue ...

Now there's a comforting thought ...

  1. On climate change as natural, see the xkcd cartoon at https://xkcd.com/1732/

  2. Well we know that "Murdoch and his acolytes are damned evil - they tell a lie and then repeat it as a fact." but oh, that Kininmonth guy is just unbelievable.

Literally unbelievable, that is - just how many lies can be packed into one medium sized post ?

But I did especially go for this one:
"Previously, Australia's electricity generation and distribution systems were world class".

Yep, some of them were ... and then we privatised them.
